This is class was exactly what I needed after doing the Reebok LA Field Day Dash the day before. It was the perfect length and difficulty to get  sweat in without overexerting myself. Unlike other boxing classes I’ve been to, BoxUnion is not so much focused on circuit training, but rather more like dance boxing where everyone gets her/his own bag and boxes to the rhythm. The first half of class started with shadow boxing so that everyone gets familiar with the moves that will later be used in the combinations on the bag. The second half of class, everyone puts on boxing gloves and hits the bag at her/his own intensity. There’s body conditioning sprinkled between sets of boxing throughout in the form of squats, lunges, planks and ab work. The class ends with a stretch.

My instructor, Kyle Schneider informed me that the Sunday Feels Signature class is a little more chill and easier than the normal class. Since the class is focused on moving to the beat of the music, I can see how this class would be a little less intense than the normal Signature classes (he plays a lot of R&B in this class). No complaints though cause this was exactly what I needed. The one thing I didn’t like was the fact that my bag was spot 13, which was behind a pole and being my first time, it was hard to see the instructor up front and hard to see what he was doing. I would recommend that if you get stuck behind the pole in 13, request to move if you’re not super familiar with boxing.

This was my first time at the studio, and it was a beautiful, clean studio located on the waterfront in Santa Monica. I’ll definitely be back to check out a normal level class!
