I tried the Jason Wimberly’s signature spin class at LA’s newest studio, the wall (currently in its soft opening phase, with hard opening on August 17th!), and thought it was the perfect level of spin class. As someone who doesn’t like super intense cardio classes, Cyclehouse and Flywheel are a little too much for me. On the otherhand, SoulCycle is great for the ambiance, but let’s be honest, I go when I want an easy workout and to inhale that signature Jonathan Adler scent. The Wimberride class at the Wall pushed me hard enough that I was struggling a little, sweating a lot and felt like I was getting my cardio for the day in, without giving up all together. Plus, Jason had great energy and great music!
The class was set up with a screen to show you how much calories you were burning, your speed and your distance, and all of this info is immediately emailed to you after class. What I also loved is that if you are renting shoes, your shoes are already waiting for you on your bike when you get to class. The only thing that might make it a little better is if there was a weights section, but the class incorporated handlebar pushups into the mix. The studio also offers mix format classes that involve spin and HIIT and core work, or just HIIT and corework, just spin or a stretch class. I definitely want to go back to check out the HIIT/spin classes because that’s such a cool concept!
