This was the first time I had ever tried surfing (in the water and not on a Surfset system) and it was every bit as hard as I had expected. The instructors do a good job of going around and pushing each individual out over the waves, turning them around, and then giving a push back to the shore so the rider gets a chance to stand up and surf back to land. However, this is not for the faint of heart. I was thrown around by the waves and occasionally, even when I was with the instructor, he still couldn’t prevent me from being knocked off the board by a wave.
You kind of have to be fearless with this class so if you’re not dedicated to learning the sport, or at least there with a friend, it might seem like a long lesson. The class size is small (mine was 7) with 2 instructors. I kind of just floated around while the instructors were with others because I hadn’t gotten good enough to swimming out to catch my own wave. I was incredibly sore that afternoon and even more sore for the next couple of days, though, I am so glad I got to experience it.
